A small good thing.
I know that after everything that's happened this will seem kind of silly, but for me and many like me who rarely went below Canal Street, the Twin Towers' main function was as a kind of compass point, a way of instantly orienting yourself upon leaving subway tunnels and the like. They were usually the first thing I looked for at these times, and there have been quite a few times over the past six months when I've ended up heading the wrong way, largely because I no longer have the Towers to guide me.
Well, I went into the city tonight, and when I walked out of the PATH station I set off in the right direction, using the "Tribute in Light" Memorial
to guide me. It was a reflex reaction, and it took me a few moments to realize what had happened.
